Thunderbird 3 alpha - one step closer to a birthday field
In release 0.7.6:
- Thunderbird 3.0a1 support
- Google: sync Contacts with a new Thunderbird addressbook
- Zimbra: performance improvements
- bugfixes
Mozilla Messaging shipped it’s first product last week - Thunderbird 3.0a1 -and it’s supported in this release of the addon.
Amongst the features that a full release of Thunderbird 3 will bring is a birthday field. We’re often asked by Zimbra users to do something to sync from Thunderbird to Zimbra’s birthday field. Although birthday isn’t in this alpha release of Thunderbird 3, when it does become a standard feature in Thunderbird, naturally Zindus will sync it.
Here is quick overview of some of what else is in store with Thunderbird 3:
- Updated addressbook - a birthday field is almost certain and photos, tags and better instant messaging addresses are on the drawing board
- Better, Faster IMAP
- Integrated calendaring (based on the Lightning addon)
- Improved search
Thunderbird 3 alpha releases aren’t production quality - hence the codename “Shredder”. If you are interested to get a feel for Thunderbird 3 you can download an early release and try it out.
At this early stage, you may not notice much difference with Thunderbird 2. Most of the work on Thunderbird 3 to date has been under the hood - including much greater leverage of the Firefox 3 codebase. The one attribute that does stand out in this release is performance - Thunderbird 3 is *fast*.
Our aim is to have the Zindus addon track the Thunderbird 3 alpha and beta releases, so if you are an early early adopter, you can stay in sync!

Hi,
is there a way to completely hide the zindus icon/progress bar from the Thunderbird status bar? I had a look to the mailwindowoverlay-tb.xul file but I get lots of javascript errors if I simply comment the sections.
Thanks,
Lore

There’s no ready-made switch to disable the statusbar icon and progress panel. If you want to hack on it, see mailwindowoverlay*.xul, syncwindow.js and timer.js.
